A joyfully Franciscan view of Catholic life, inspired by St. Clare (Santa Chiara) of Assisi!

Chiara Offreduccio (St. Clare) was born in 1194. It is said that when her mother had Chiara in her womb, an angel appeared to her and said, "your child will be a light that will illuminate the world!" Hence, her mother named the child Chiara, which means "light. As G.K. Chesterton put it, St. Clare was a romantic figure just like Juliet was. However, instead of running away from her family in order to be with an earthly man, Clare gave up everything and ran away from her family for the love of her Savior!

AUTHENTIC Religious Habit Costumes!

So I was looking up Poor Clare pictures for a project that I'm doing for my Systems Analysis class, and I came across this odd but slightly exhilirating website! Ever wish that you could dress like the Angelic Doctor....or go prancing around as St. Therese? Well you can if you order from GothicGarments!

That's right.....this website not only sells religious garments (both monks, nuns, and priestly vestments) but also peddles secular medeival attire, in case you want to make like St. Clare and wear both a satin gown and a sackcloth habit all in one night. I must admit, however, that the real habits that nuns wear are much prettier than the ones found on this site.

But there is finally a place where I can buy a wimple, so that my next gig as St. Clare will be all the more complete!

*NOTE* Please keep in mind that these should only be used for costume purposes, and not to be worn regularly. I believe that it is a mortal sin to "pose" as a consecrated religious when you have not yet made any vows.
