A joyfully Franciscan view of Catholic life, inspired by St. Clare (Santa Chiara) of Assisi!

Chiara Offreduccio (St. Clare) was born in 1194. It is said that when her mother had Chiara in her womb, an angel appeared to her and said, "your child will be a light that will illuminate the world!" Hence, her mother named the child Chiara, which means "light. As G.K. Chesterton put it, St. Clare was a romantic figure just like Juliet was. However, instead of running away from her family in order to be with an earthly man, Clare gave up everything and ran away from her family for the love of her Savior!

All Creatures of Our God and King!

As a member of the Notre Dame Liturgical Choir, we were rehearsing our programme for Junior Parents Weekend tonight, and that included the beautiful hymn "All Creatures of Our God and King," which was written by our Holy Father Francis!

Below are the lyrics:

All creatures of our God and KingLift up your voice and with us sing,Alleluia! Alleluia!Thou burning sun with golden beam,Thou silver moon with softer gleam!

Refrain

O praise Him! O praise Him!Alleluia! Alleluia! Alleluia!
Thou rushing wind that art so strongYe clouds that sail in Heaven along,O praise Him! Alleluia!Thou rising moon, in praise rejoice,Ye lights of evening, find a voice!

Refrain

Thou flowing water, pure and clear,Make music for thy Lord to hear,O praise Him! Alleluia!Thou fire so masterful and bright,That givest man both warmth and light.

Refrain

Dear mother earth, who day by dayUnfoldest blessings on our way,O praise Him! Alleluia! The flowers and fruits that in thee grow,Let them His glory also show.

Refrain

And all ye men of tender heart,Forgiving others, take your part,O sing ye! Alleluia!Ye who long pain and sorrow bear,Praise God and on Him cast your care!

Refrain

And thou most kind and gentle Death,Waiting to hush our latest breath,O praise Him! Alleluia!Thou leadest home the child of God,And Christ our Lord the way hath trod.

Refrain

Let all things their Creator bless,And worship Him in humbleness,O praise Him! Alleluia!Praise, praise the Father, praise the Son,And praise the Spirit, Three in One!

Also, I wanted to alert all of you dear bloggers.....my dorm is updating the internet connection, which means that I will not have internet access in my room. Thus, for the next month, you will not see as many posts from me. I am terribly sorry, but please keep coming back intermittently....there might be something up!

Pax et Bonum,

Chiara
